Webb Upends Cosmology
A reminder, if you needed one, that "the science" is never really settled.
Since the James Webb Space Telescope was successfully launched almost a year ago, startling revelations have occurred. It turns out that many, if not all, of the cosmological models that have been accepted as gospel truth for decades are no longer tenable.
“Everything we see is new. Webb is showing us that there's a very rich universe beyond what we imagined," said Tommaso Treu of the University of California at Los Angeles, principal investigator on one of the Webb programs. "Once again the universe has surprised us. These early galaxies are very unusual in many ways."
As prominent space blogger Robert Zimmerman stated on his blog, “We should not be surprised if in the next two years data from Webb will overturn almost all the theories that presently exist about the Big Bang and its immediate aftermath.”
Let that sink in. Almost all the theories about the Big Bang and its aftermath are on the cusp of being overturned.
This all seems to confirm Thomas S. Kuhn’s thesis as laid out in his book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions.
